| JH. Hale’s Million Dollar peach (Prunus persica) is an old cultivar named after Jean Han Hale. It is described as one of the nicest peaches to eat – and as it’s one of the rare and endangered fruit trees grown in the Rare Fruit Arboretum in Kanmantoo, the Neutrog staff are fortunate to be able to taste them when they ripen. The fruit is large, with an almost fuzzless, deep yellow skin and a slight red blush. It has succulent, yellow flesh with a course, grainy texture and a delicious flavour. The Million Dollar peach is one of the rare peaches that requires pollination to set a good crop, and needs to be planted together with Blackburn Elberta for good pollination and fruit set. It ripens mid-February, and can be eaten fresh, dried or stewed.
